Discrimination in the granting of microcredits: Véronique Tognifodé calls SFDs to order

Following several complaints that she received from the population, Véronique Tognifodé called to order the heads of the Decentralized Financial Systems (SFD) partners of the National Microfinance Fund (FNM).

The Minister of Social Affairs and Microfinance, Véronique Tognifodé met at the end of last week, the heads of the Decentralized Financial Systems (SFD) partners of the National Microfinance Fund (FNM) of the 4 departments of the North.

This meeting initiated by the authority follows the many complaints that have reached him from the populations. Some potential beneficiaries of this microcredit denounce the discrimination shown by some of the SFDs and the slowness in the processing of files.

“By setting up the Alafia microcredit, the government is in a strategy to reduce the poverty rate in Benin…but the SFDs do not seem to want to support” the government’s vision, deplored Véronique Tognifodé.

The Alafia microcredit, although intended for people who meet the conditions, is without discrimination, regardless of the gender and political side of the beneficiaries, underlined Minister Véronique Tognifodé. The authority has especially insisted on the case of the handicapped.

To believe her, “disability should not be a factor of discrimination either”, she insists before inviting the decentralized financial structures partners of the FNM, to comply with the specifications and especially to register in the government’s vision of putting people everywhere to work.
