The official events within the framework of the celebration of World Refugee Day took place on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at Chant d’Oiseau in Cotonou.
Established by United Nations resolution 55-76, the day aims to celebrate the rights of refugees through demonstrations.
The theme of the 2022 edition is: “The right to seek asylum”.
According to the Minister of the Interior and Public Security, Benin registers 1,778 refugees and 586 asylum seekers. Alassane Seïdou, President of the National Commission for Refugees reassured that the protection and promotion of the right to seek asylum are at the heart of the actions of the government of Patrice Talon.
During this celebration, Radouane Boukhanfra, Resident Representative of the International Organization Direct AID in Benin, renewed her commitment to support the State for the well-being of refugees.
The president of the Association of Refugees of Benin Guillaume Hounpehet did not fail to thank the authorities and the people of Benin for their hospitality.
The Beninese government offered the refugees gifts at the ceremony. There was also the fair of products and articles made by the refugees, games and other activities of rejoicing between the refugees.
