Pathé Dione, founder of the SUNU Assurance group, is dead

Pathé Dione, the founder and CEO of the pan-African bancassurance group passed away today in Paris following illness.

Pathé Dione, 81, president of the Sunu Group, died this morning in Paris. A giant of the African financial sector, this pan-African founded the Sunu group in the late 1990s.

The Senegalese businessman leaves an impressive economic and financial legacy built since 1998. When Pathé Dione leaves the scene, he leaves an empire made up of more than 4081 employees, 26 life and non-life insurance companies, 1 bank , 1 microfinance company, 1 real estate company and 2 health management companies, spread over seventeen (17) African countries.

In October 2022, Pathé Dione left the General Management of the Sunu group, but retained the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors, and joined the Management Committee as a member.

A man of challenges, Pathé Dione acquired BICIS, a subsidiary of BNP Paribas in Senegal, at the end of 2022, to consolidate the banking division of his group.

Present in more than 17 countries in sub-Saharan Africa, including Cameroon, the SUNU group was founded at the end of the 1990s. In the process, Pathé Dione still has its attachment to its African roots.
