Her Majesty Queen Màxima of the Netherlands, Special Advisor to the United Nations Secretary on Inclusive Finance for Development (UNSGSA), paid a working visit to BCEAO Headquarters in Dakar, on Wednesday June 15, 2022, on the sidelines of his official visits to the States of Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal.
She was received for the occasion by the Vice-Governor of the BCEAO, acting as Governor, Mr. Mamadou DIOP, in the presence of the Representative of the United Nations System Coordination Office in Senegal, the Deputy Ambassador of the Kingdom from the Netherlands to Senegal and technical and financial partners, namely the World Bank, the Consultative Group to Assist the Poor (CGAP), the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Better Than Cash Alliance.
The meeting aimed to discuss community initiatives and the action of the BCEAO in terms of financial inclusion as well as the prospects for cooperation with the UNSGSA. In this regard, the discussions focused on the regional project for the interoperability of digital financial services, the promotion and development of FinTechs, the revision of banking and microfinance laws in WAEMU, the problem of identifying users of financial services, financing of small and medium enterprises, financial education and consumer protection. This meeting also provided the opportunity to address gender-specific constraints in terms of access to and use of financial services in the Union.
