From June 14 to 17, 2022, was held at the Terra Nostra hotel in Ouidah, the workshop for the development of the 1st quarterly information bulletin on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) on behalf of the year 2022.
Organized by the Observatory for the Family, Women and Children (Offe), this technical workshop brought together executives and actors from the various central, technical and departmental directorates of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Microfinance (MASM) as well as as resource people.
The workshop aims to develop the first quarter of 2022 newsletter on gender-based violence in Benin with a view to assisting in making better decisions for the reduction of the phenomenon which continues to escalate.
The work of the workshop to develop the 1st quarterly information bulletin on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) on behalf of 2022 was officially launched on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, by the Director General of the Observatory family, women and children (Offe). Referring to the cross-cutting nature of gender and the extent of GBV, Mr. Nassirou Kassoumou Hararou recalled the need for the Observatory to make available to protection actors, fight actors, decision-makers and researchers, information and data statistics on gender-based violence in Benin with a view to reducing the phenomenon.
“Based on the cross-cutting nature of the notion of gender and inspired by the extent of gender-based violence and its many consequences on not only the victims but also on the community and the nation, it appeared necessary for the “Offer to communicate around the figures relating to this theme through the development each quarter of an information bulletin on gender-based violence”, indicated Mr. Kassoumou before wishing that the work be fruitful.
Divide into two working groups, the participants will essentially proceed: to the extraction from the SIDoFFE-NG of data relating to the sub-theme ”violence” at the level of the fields: promotion of the family, women and gender and protection of children from January to March 2022. They will also produce tables and graphs based on the data extracted and their analysis before moving on to the plenary validation of the information bulletin for the first quarter of 2022 after the editing of its first draft.
Said bulletin once validated, will be published and multiplied to be made available to the actors with a view to its exploitation for the happiness of the populations.
The development and publishing activities of the information bulletin on gender-based violence for the first quarter of 2022 are funded by UNFPA as part of the joint annual work plan (Pta) Masm-Unfpa 2022.
Inform to accelerate action
Since November 2019, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Microfinance through the Offe has contributed to the production, management and use of information relating to the family, women, children, social protection and gender to support better decision-making. This mission is made possible thanks to the Integrated System of Data relating to the Family, the Woman and the Child of New Generation (SIDoFFE-NG) which generates statistical data on all the targets of the social action thanks to its application web and all the system for collecting and reporting information set up from the municipal level to the central level.
