Dakar, Feb 17 (APS) – The Minister of Microfinance and Solidarity Economy, Zahra Iyane Thiam, announced on Thursday the holding of a microfinance meeting before the end of the current year, signaling in this context the start staff of the digitization program for small-scale decentralized financial services (SDF) of the Microfinance Impulse Fund (FIMF).

“We are going to hold this year, it is included in the budget for the year 2022, the foundations of microfinance (…)”, she informed, on the occasion of a ceremony of presentation of certificates training and IT equipment for decentralized financial services.

She noted that the microfinance sector “is today at a decisive turning point in its evolution, in particular that of remaining financially and socially efficient, notwithstanding the harmful exogenous shocks”.

“The challenge is therefore vital for our sector, because it is a question of doing better than in the past, by integrating the necessary innovations, in particular digital finance”, she underlined, adding: “At this level , my department undertakes to pursue such priorities in its actions, through the instruments made available to it (…)”.

She reported “the effective start of the FIMF Program on the digitization of small DFS”.

This program, she recalls, “aims for a better professionalization of small DFS, through” in particular “the renewal of the computer park by the endowment of latest generation computer equipment (…)”.

The certificates presented this Thursday sanction a training started in October 2021, for the benefit of 201 beneficiaries, including 175 leaders from 48 decentralized financial services distributed between 12 regions of Senegal.

According to the vice-president of the Professional Association of Decentralized Financial Systems of Senegal, Jean Jacques Diop, “the knowledge acquired during this training will improve” the work of mutuals both “on a theoretical and practical level”.

“Some 48 decentralized financial services were trained during this session. This will strengthen the human capital of our members but also the vitality of our structures”, he underlined.

The ceremony was also used to provide grants for equipment consisting of 70 computers and printers, as institutional support for small DFS.

“We are in the process of deploying numerous efforts to enable DFS to be dynamic, to respond to the concerns of populations, especially vulnerable ones. This approach undoubtedly calls for a synergy of actions and respect for the obligations incumbent to the actors, to hope for positive results”, according to Zahra Iyane Thiam.
