The premises of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Microfinance (Masm) in Cotonou served as the setting this Thursday, January 19, 2023, for a ceremony to hand over materials intended for the care of children and the development of young girls in the Benign. Offered by Unicef ​​Benin with the financial support of Canada to this Ministry, this donation supports the efforts of the heads of the Social Protection Centers and other social actors in the field.

During the official handover ceremony which was attended by all the parties concerned, the representative of the financing partner for this action, namely Canada, thanked Unicef ​​Benin as well as the Ministry of Microfinance and social, for their constant efforts for the well-being of the children and young girls of Benin. Following her, the Resident Representative of UNICEF in Benin in her speech suggested that gender-based violence is an obstacle to the development of children and the expression of the full potential of young girls and adolescents. By commending the Beninese government for the measures taken to fight against this scourge, Djanabou Mahondé recognizes the various efforts that are being made to support the structures that work to provide quality care for girls in Benin. “(…). These common aspirations require the strengthening of front-line actors. This is why we are happy to announce the official handover on this day of: 90 laptops, 27 desktops, 81 tablets, 13 printers, 8 overhead projectors, 11 USB sticks, 11 motorcycles, 2 medical examination tables and gynecology for Cipec, and a 4×4 type car. For an amount of 130,000,000 FCFA, this material assistance is largely made possible thanks to Canada. This donation from Canada will benefit the 85 social promotion centers in Benin and the three integrated care centers (…). We are convinced that with the appropriate tools, the protection and commitment of girls, adolescents and young people, Masm agents will be able to strengthen the increased exercise by girls and adolescents in Benin of their rights, in particular their rights to protection against gender-based violence,” she suggested. The Minister of Social Affairs and Microfinance, Véronique Tognifodé, on receiving this donation, did not fail to thank Unicef ​​Benin for its constant support which, she said, leads to convincing results in keeping girls in school. school and the training system. “It is certain that these materials echo the needs felt in the field.
